Blinder started as part of OLED Lifestyle Screen Project, which Jiyoun Kim Studio and LG Display collaborated on. Its’ purpose is to explore what value OLED technology can give in people's lives and living spaces. It was executed simultaneously with Partial Screen Project.
The project began with finding a way to solve the technical limitations of transparent display, which, in real life usage, needs to block light from the backside as needed. Jiyoun Kim and his team took inspiration from window blind strip and adopted it as a physical user experience. This structure simplifies electrically implemented shielding structure that occupied a lot of space, and makes users conceive and utilize it as a living space appliance.
Blinder was designed to be placed in the center of living space to showcase the characteristics of transparent OLED. It is composed of simple light and sturdy aluminum pipe frame. Blinder was produced as a working model using actual LG Display OLED and was revealed at CES 2022.
